The Ritz - a place for celebrations - Happy 110th

This year is the 110th year anniversary of the opening of the Ritz Hotel in London by Swiss hotelier César Ritz and its popularity has not wavered since.

The word opulent doesn’t really do justice to the sparkling, cut-glass chandeliers, pastel palette of pink, lemon and blue shades and gold-leaf cornicing. The adjective ritzy — which has since made it into the dictionary — says it all.

The Long Gallery and Palm Court are ravishing; the dining room is one of the most gorgeous in Europe. The hotel has changed little since it opened in 1906; the location is superb, the service is faultless and the atmosphere is theatre at its best.

I have been at the Ritz on two separate occasions, both truly magical.
The first time I took my mother to the famous Tea at the Ritz for a special birthday celebration ; I choose the champagne option with a birthday cake. The Palm Court room is gorgeous, the staff was attentive and friendly without being intrusive, and they made my mum feel like a queen.

The second time was a few weeks ago for dinner and drinks. My friend and I had cocktails pre-dinner ( I tried the Ritz, a special mix for the 110th anniversary, truly delicious).
The dining room offers a 360 degree enveloping experience:

  • towering marble columns, soaring floor to ceiling windows, vast kaleidoscopic ceiling frescoes, gilded neoclassical statues and a spectacular chandelier offer a feast for your eyes;
  • musicians performing live tickle your ears;

  • each course on the menu entice your taste buds, each teasing you for more ....amuse-bouche, starter, main, dessert, petits fours and coffee ... yum.
The Ritz is a truly quintessential traditionally glorious
British experience, any celebration or just treat to yourself would
be enhanced by having it here.

Amazing architecture and style, drenched in history and tradition, superb location, fantastic service, delicious food, it sounds like heaven to me.

Is it decadent? Indeed.
Is it expensive? Not as much as you think...
Is it worthed? Oh yes

Happy 110th Ritz.
